Tarmac Driveway After Care Tips in Eastwood
It’s worth it. A tarmac driveway will last you many years. Although we don’t mean to be too strict, these are essential steps to protect your investment.
1 - Never drive on freshly laid asphalt for at least 2 to 3 days.
If it is warm outside, you can leave it for longer before driving on it. We are happy to help you if you have any questions about driveways or paths made of tarmac.
It’s worth noting your driveway will be weakest and most vulnerable to damage the first year. As it ages, the asphalt will become more hardened and grey.
2 – Driveway manoeuvres
Be on the move before you get behind the wheel.
Scuff marks can form on the surface of the vehicle if the wheel is turned while it is stationary. There is the possibility of serious damage if you keep creating scuffs in the same spot.
3 – Avoid 'point loads', or spread the pressure.
Point loads are objects that exert undued pressure on a single spot. This is something like the motorbike stand, which removes the pressure from the tyres but then puts them through the small area of the metal foot. Point loads could also include the feet of ladders or caravans.
If this is not possible, you can place a board or stand under your feet to distribute the pressure and spread the load.
4 – Get rid of spills right away
You can damage the driveway’s tarmac surface by using oil or detergent. Do not leave any spillage behind, regardless of how small.
Do not hesitate to soak up excess liquid. Cat litter, sawdust and dry sand are good choices.
Removing any residue should be done by soaking it in water and then scrub with a mixture of washing liquid and water.
